1. In the United States and the rest of the northern hemisphere, the first day of the summer season is the day of the year when the Sun is farthest north (on June 21st or 22nd). This day is known as the Summer Solstice.

4. On June 21, 1915, The U.S. Supreme Court hands down its decision in Guinn v. United States 238 US 247 1915, striking down an Oklahoma law denying the right to vote to some citizens.

5. On June 21, 1940, during World War II, France surrenders to Germany.

6. On June 21, 1973, In handing down the decision in Miller v. Calfiornia 413 US 15, the Supreme Court of the United States establishes the Miller Test, which now governs obscenity in U.S. law.

7. On June 21, 1982, John Hinckley is found not guilty by reason of insanity for the attempted assassination of U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

8. On June 21, 2003, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, by JK Rowling, is published worldwide (in English).

9. On June 21, 2006, Pluto's newly discovered moons are officially christened Nix and Hydra.

10. On June 21, 1947, Meredith Baxter and Michael Gross (co-stars of Family Ties) were born. (IMO, I thought that was very interesting.)

11. On June 21, 1973, Juliette Lewis was born.
